The M/S Storholmen was built 1896 and provides an interesting history. She was constructed by Oskarshamns Mekaniska Verkstad, using overlapping strips of iron.
Her construction was ordered by a Danish shipping company. A couple of years later she was sold and landed in Sweden again for cruising in Gävle, named Bomhus II. During the first world war there wasn't sufficient coal and so she was bought by a confectioner Lundevall in Enköping. The boat was used to ship guests to his inn ”Fagerudd”, situated in the lake Mälaren. It was even the new name of the boat.
Ten years later she was sold and travelled in Holmsund in Norrland, now going under the name of Döbeln. In 1933 captain Edman in Ljungskile bought her and named her Storholmen. She travelled between Ropsten and Viggbyholm in the Stockholm archipelago.
Some years later she landed in Gothenburg and travelled in the archipelago, before being sold to Lennartsfors in 1938 with the purpose to cruise in the Dalsland Canal. This is what she is most famous for.
The boat was a steam ship until 1951, when she was equipped with her first diesel engine, a Dutz. Nowadays she works with a Volvo Penta.

The restaurant aboard accommodates 48 guests who can enjoy locally produced food and beverages. We are completely licensed to serve alcohol. Coffee buffet available for self service on deck. (Cash only)

Disabled accessible boarding. Only on request. Down to the restaurant on the lower deck there is a wide staircase with good handrails. The toilet is not accessible for disabled.
The vessel complies with the new requirements of the EU for maritime safety, including terms of stability and fire safety. Fleets and life jackets for 109 persons are on board.
The Storholmen has a Volvo Penta diesel engine of 150 hp.
The virgin trip took place June 3, 1896 between Oskarshamn and Copenhagen.
